How You Can Help

The Humane Society of South Mississippi relies on the commitment and support of our community to house and care for orphaned animals. There are several ways you, too, can be a friend of HSSM.

Be sure to spay/neuter your companion animals. Besides reducing the population of homeless animals and the prospect for more, there are health benefits that many pet owners know nothing about.
With no federal funding, the HSSM operates on the donations of supporters and business partners to effectively achieve our goals. You may give to the HSSM’s general fund allowing us to allocate the funds where our needs are at the time, or you may choose a program or event you find essential to sponsor.
You can show your support through membership, which also has its privileges. Click to the left or contact the HSSM today to find out how you can join the club!
The HSSM is always in need of volunteers. With the bigger, better shelter, there are also more animals to care for and more opportunities. For more information on how you can help, click on the volunteer link to the left. For the more dedicated animal lover, there are also fostering opportunities available, which have proven to change lives forever!
Have your pet implanted with a microchip so that he can be identified as belonging to you if ever lost. This will help fewer animals enter our doors, and when they do we will be able to get them home more quickly. The new microchipping procedure is no more painful than a vaccination. If your dog or cat is found, any animal hospital, shelter, or humane society can use a microchip scanner to read the unique ID number contained on the chip. A quick phone call to the microchip company will help you get your pet home safe. The Humane Society offers microchips to the public for $15. Just stop by our Surrender Department, no appointment necessary.

The HSSM knows that it could not fulfill its mission without the care and support of its community. Thank you for being a friend of the HSSM and to all of the homeless animals in our care.
