HSSM Adopts a New Director of Development

Gulfport, MS- The HSSM is proud to announce the newest addition to the pack: Jode Braxton-Hignight was adopted this week as the HSSM’s new Director of Development. Jode will be responsible for the Shelter’s public relations, communications-internal & external and fundraising. Jode was previously helping small businesses and non-profit organizations maintain and maximize their advertising and marketing budgets through her own consulting company. She has also worked as an event planner and publicist for local commissioners and politicians. Jode has a strong casino marketing background, which will come in handy as the new top dog in charge of raising funds and development at the HSSM.

Jode explains, “I have had the pleasure of volunteering for the Humane Society for the past two years and have witnessed the incredible programs and services they have to offer our community. I am so excited to accept my new position so that I can help make a difference in the lives of pets and their human counterparts across South Mississippi.” She will also use her experience as volunteer extraordinaire for the HSSM to make the existing fundraising events such as Critter Classic, Tiki Goes to the Dogs (and Cats), and Diamonds for Dogs better than ever. Jode and her family live in Gulfport. She is married to Brad Hignight with two young boys, Braxton (4) and Brodie (2) and two furry family members, Frisco and Bex.

Ever encouraged to learn more, Jode is attending Tulane University to complete her major in Public Relations this summer. Jode’s experience and education will only help her to succeed and exceed all expectations in her capacity as communications, education and development liaison in an effort to raise awareness of the Shelter’s offerings to the community, including, but not limited to, the Louise Fenner Claiborne high-volume spay/neuter clinic, training and behavioral classes, adoptions as well as expanding the donor base and educating them on all the different ways to give to this worthy cause.
