HSSM to Host USPS “Stamps to the Rescue” Kick-Off Event

The Humane Society of South Mississippi will offer tours of its facility on Friday, May 7th from 10:00 am-6:00 pm to kick-off the United States Postal Service’s “Stamps to the Rescue” campaign.  USPS will also be at the shelter from 11:00 am-2:00 pm on May 7th to sell Animal Rescue: Adopt a Shelter Pet stamps, cachets, and other merchandise.

The tours of the Humane Society of South Mississippi’s 41,000 square foot facility (located on Hwy 49, just north of Pass Road) will last 20 minutes each and will begin at 10:00am and start every 30 minutes on the hour and half-hour. The last tour will begin at 5:30 pm. Tours are appropriate for all ages.

In addition to tours of the shelter, HSSM will offer children’s activities such as coloring pages and writing letters to shelter pets as well as snacks and drinks.

The “Stamps to the Rescue” campaign continues a 50+ year tradition of the Postal Service bringing attention and awareness to serious social issues of the day…one letter at a time. The stamps feature photographs of five cats and five dogs who were all adopted from shelters. The “Stamps to the Rescue” Campaign is a joint effort between many animal welfare organizations, USPS and Halo: Purely for Pets. Halo, a pet food company co-owned by talk-show host Ellen DeGeneres, will be donating over 1 million meals to shelter pets across the country during the promotion “Because shelter pets deserve a first-class meal.”

RSVPs for tours are not required, but if you would like to book a tour time, please contact Krystyna at 228-822-3803 or krystyna@hssm.org. Tours have room for 25 people each, but larger groups can be accommodated with advance notice.
