MARCH 31, 2010 BILOXI-MISSISSIPPI. The Gulf Coast Community Foundation is pleased to announce a grant award in the amount of $60,000 to Humane Society of South Mississippi through the Gulf Coast Community Foundation from the Jack A. & Gertrude W. Wilson Animal Welfare Fund.

This fund was established by Gertrude W. Wilson in 2001.  The purpose of this grant is to support animal welfare projects, such as the “Love Train” that transports adoptable pets from the Mississippi Gulf Coast area to other parts of the nation lacking adoptable pets, where those pets  are made available for adoption.

This is the 4th installment of a $450,000, 5 year grant from the Wilson Animal Welfare Fund to fund the Love Train.  In the third year of operation the Love Train transported 569 animals, for a total of 2,382 animals to date.

“We are excited to be a part of this very important program”, said Rich Westfall, President of Gulf Coast Community Foundation. “Congratulations to the Humane Society of South MS for a job well done, reducing euthanasia and creating a new opportunity for many adoptable pets.”
