Please join us in stopping the euthanasia of more than tens of thousands cats and dogs every year across the state of MIssissippi Donate today!

The Humane Society of South Mississippi’s goal is to never again put a healthy, adoptable cat, dog, kitten or puppy to sleep. With your help we can reduce the overpopulation of orphaned cats and dogs so there will no longer be more pets than homes in South Mississippi.

One dog and her offspring can produce over 11,000 puppies in one year, where a cat and her offspring can produce 60,000 felines, leaving thousands of helpless animals to fend for themselves. The only real solution to pet overpopulation and the euthanasia of perfectly good pets is through spaying and neutering.

Animal overpopulation in South Mississippi is so severe that 3 of the 4 cats in this picture are likely to be euthanized. Please spay or neuter your pets!

Due to generous grants offered the recovering Ms. Gulf Coast by the United Animal Nations, the International Fund for Animal Welfare, the ASPCA, the HSUS and PetSmart Charities, our spay/neuter incentive program (SNIP) at HSSM enables us to offer spay or neuter surgeries to the public for very low fees. As of July 1, 2008, our fees are as follows:

Regular Fees

All animals from Harrison County $35 (includes rabies vaccine!)

All animals from outside Harrison County $50 (includes rabies vaccine!)

All animals belonging to owners with proof of low income* FREE (includes rabies vaccine!)

*must bring proof that you are receving government assistance through EBT, WIC, Medicaid, SS Disability, Public Housing, etc.

Other Services

E-collar $7
Slip Leash $3
Bitter Orange $7
Box Carrier $5
Microchip $15
DA2PP or FVRCP Vaccine $8
Additional pain meds $7
Nail Trim $5
Boarding Fee $15/day

Remember–the additional services described above are only available for animals who are in the clinic for spay or neuter surgeries, and only on a one-time basis. Other than spay/neuter surgeries, microchipping, and our bi-annual rabies vaccination clinic, we do not offer vet services to the public.

Our expenditure per surgery exceeds the fee that we charge, so it is very difficult for us to maintain this critical program and procedure. However, we are committed to ending the needless death of companion animals no matter the cost to us. The toll of ignoring this problem is much greater. If you agree and would like to help, please donate today!

Last year we performed over 11,000 surgeries that prevented the birth of thousands of unwanted cats and dogs and plan to top that this year, but we can’t do it without your support. With your tax-deductible donation, we can continue and increase our efforts. Together we can make the change. Please give to the SNIP fund, and…Be a part of the solution!
