The clinic is open Monday through Friday from 7:30am-4pm.
We are located at the Humane Society of South Mississippi, address 2615 25th Ave. Gulfport, MS 39501.
Our entrance is in the small front parking lot, right off of HWY 49. It is red.

What services does the clinic offer?

The clinic offers low cost spay/neuter surgeries, annual wellness exams, vaccinations, microchipping, heartworm and flea preventatives, heartworm treatment, dentals, x-rays, and limited sick pet exams. The HSSM Clinic is not full service, and does not have the capability to do ultrasounds or emergency care.

Why should pets be spayed/neutered?

Spayed or neutered pets live an average of 2 years longer than unfixed animals. Spay/Neuter reduces and totally eliminates some forms of cancers and certain types of infections that can be life threatening.

Spayed or neutered pets are less likely to roam, which in turn decreases lifetime emergency veterinary costs due to lessened chances of being hit by a car or going missing. Spay/Neuter eliminates the health risks associated with a female pet giving birth. Spay/Neuter decreases the pet overpopulation crisis faced in South Mississippi.

Do I need an appointment?

Does the clinic offer discounts on services?

Yes, we offer a sliding scale discount for those in need of assistance. Please come to the clinic or email appointments@hssm.org to ask about the Financial Assistance Application. Those who qualify may receive anywhere from 20%-80% off of services.

I have an animal emergency! Can I bring it to HSSM?

Please call and ask if we are able to treat your animal before you bring it in. We are not a full service facility and are limited to what services we are able to perform. We suggest bringing emergencies to emergency animal hospitals as time is very valuable in saving lives! After hours emergencies need to go to an emergency vet.

I adopted an animal that has to stay to be fixed. How long will it take?

It will be 2-5 business days for your new pet to be fixed and ready to go home. The clinic will call you as soon as your pet is ready.

Does the clinic see exotic animals?

No, the HSSM clinic is only equipped to handle cats and dogs.

Do I have to get the rabies vaccine?

Yes, the rabies vaccine is required by law. It is $18 on it’s own. It is $12 when included with a surgery, and it is included in the vaccine packages we offer.

Can I stop in any time to get flea/heartworm prevention?

Current clients can come in during business hours to buy their monthly prevention. If you have never been to the clinic before, or if it has been over 1 year, you must first have a veterinary exam before being able to buy prevention as it is a prescription medication.

My pet is having post-surgical complications. What should I do?

If our clinic is open, please come see us! No appointment or phone call is necessary. We are open Monday-Friday from 7:30am-4pm. If it is after hours, please see your regular vet or emergency vet. Please note that HSSM is not responsible for any costs incurred. We highly recommend the use of post-op pain medication and an e-collar to prevent the most common complications.
