The Humane Society of South Mississippi is closely monitoring and evaluating the number of  COVID-19 cases in our State.  Due to the recent increase of cases in Harrison County specifically, we are updating our policies and procedures to protect the health and well being of all staff, volunteers and animals in our care.

HSSM has developed an internal work plan for staff that is based on the recommended practices of the Centers of Disease Control and the Mississippi State Department of Health.  It is the intent of HSSM to provide as many services as safely possible and to minimize service interruptions.

We launched our initial COVID-19 Contingency Plan back on March 16, 2020 and it evolves daily as this is a very fluid situation.

Starting December 17th, HSSM will move to curbside services to ensure the health and safety of our shelter staff, pets and community. Entry into the shelter and thrift store will be limited and you will check in with a HSSM greeter at each department entrance. The health of our team is critical in order to continue providing high quality care to the hundreds of pets residing at the shelter that desperately need us.

A face mask must be properly worn at all times while inside the facility.

The health and safety of our pets, staff/volunteers and community is our top priority.

You can still support HSSM by making an online donation at: https://hssm.org/donate-today/ to assist us in purchasing much needed shelter supplies.

Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding during this ever-changing situation. We wish you and  your family health and wellness during this crisis and remember that we will get through this together.
