The Humane Society of South Mississippi is closely monitoring and evaluating the number of COVID-19 cases in our State. Due to the recent increase of cases in Harrison County specifically, we are updating our policies and procedures to protect the health and well being of all staff, volunteers and animals in our care.
HSSM has developed an internal work plan for staff that is based on the recommended practices of the Centers of Disease Control and the Mississippi State Department of Health. It is the intent of HSSM to provide as many services as safely possible and to minimize service interruptions.
We launched our initial COVID-19 Contingency Plan back on March 16, 2020 and it evolves daily as this is a very fluid situation.
The health and safety of our pets, staff/volunteers and community is our top priority.

The Humane Society of South Mississippi (HSSM) is the largest animal welfare organization in the state of Mississippi. We are committed to ending pet overpopulation and homelessness, and our dream is to make South Mississippi a community in which no adoptable pet is ever euthanized.
100% Non-profit
Contrary to popular belief, HSSM receives no “trickle down” funding from any national animal welfare organization or any local, state, or federal governmental funding. We depend on the generosity of our community to provide the high quality services and compassion we are renowned for.
