About 18% of dogs that arrive to the shelter are heartworm positive. On average, heartworm positive dogs live in the shelter 4 months longer compared to a heartworm negative dog and we are currently housing 58 heartworm positive dogs in the shelter.

On any given day, it would cost $30K plus to treat all of the heartworm positive dogs in our care. Donations to the Have a Heart Fund are used exclusively for the treatment/sponsorship of heartworm positive dogs in the shelter. Sadly, due to the financial strain that heartworm treatment can impose on new pet parents, dogs that test positive for heartworms are often overlooked…SO, that is where you come in!
